One of my coaching colleagues gives very specific advice to his coaching clients:

“You should be interviewing for jobs at other companies at least twice a year.”

“What! You might say. Why on earth would you tell me to interview elsewhere?”

Because by interviewing with other companies, you’re making an active choice to stay at your current company, rather than a passive decision not to leave.

It exposes you to other companies, and lets you see the products, teams, businesses, cultures, and benefit packages available to you.

Seeing what’s out there may also help you realize what you already have is the best choice for you.

When you look elsewhere and decide to stay, you also end up more committed to your current company and you are a better employee.

What about you?

Will you challenge yourself to make an active choice or are you going to settle for a passive decision?
