Every day, we tell ourselves stories.
Stories about who we are.
Stories about what we’re capable of.
Stories about what our experiences mean.
Most of the time, we don’t even realize we’re doing it.
A missed opportunity becomes:
“I should have known better.”
A difficult season becomes:
“I’m falling behind.”
A mistake becomes:
“I’m not good at this.”
The challenge is that these stories often feel like facts.
But they aren’t always facts.
They’re interpretations.
And interpretations can change.
One of the most valuable things we can do is become aware of the stories running quietly in the background of our lives.
Because once we notice them, we can begin asking better questions.
Is this story helping me?
Is it completely true?
What evidence might I be overlooking?
What else could be true?
These questions don’t erase challenges.
But they can create space for a different perspective.
And sometimes a different perspective is exactly what helps us move forward.
The goal isn’t to tell ourselves unrealistic stories.
It’s to tell ourselves more accurate and compassionate ones.
Because the stories we believe influence the choices we make.
And those choices shape the lives we build.
